Making the Most out of Your Cash Advances
Getting and using cash advances wisely requires some preparation and thought. Choosing from the many online lenders out there is not something that should be done with your eyes closed and a recitation of "eeny meenie miney moe". To get the most out of your cash advance and personal loan situation, follow these simple guidelines:
- Look for incentives: There are some online cash advance lenders that offer incentives to first time or repeat borrowers in order to earn or keep their business. Incentives may be a decrease in the fee for borrowing for the first time, or a gradual decrease in the fee for taking out loans beyond the first one. Other lenders offer to allow you to extend your loan term up to six or nine months at no additional fee or penalty. Whatever your reasons for needing a cash advance, be sure to check for advantages such as these in order to make sure you have the best lender and borrowing experience possible.
- Borrow only what you need: Even if it doesn't seem like a big deal to borrow an extra $15, or $50 more than what you currently need for whatever issue you have you should resist the temptation to borrow any more than you absolutely need. A lot of people think that if they are borrowing $105 for a $30 repayment fee, they may as well go ahead and borrow $199 and have the same repayment fee. This is a mistake, because that extra $94 will be that much more difficult for you to come up with when repayment time is due. Even though it is technically costing you nothing, you will likely miss it or regret it when it has to be taken out of your next paycheck.
- Pay back early if possible: Often times people will use cash advances as a stop gap when they know they are getting an influx of cash in the near future but need it now. If that is the case, you don't have to wait until your next payday to pay back the loan; pay it back immediately. This will allow you to keep all of your next check and you won't have to worry about budgeting for the repayment.
- Use a budget: It cannot be stressed enough that being prepared with a budget plan is the best way to repay any loan that you take out. If you usually get paid $500 per week and take a cash advance of $100, then you need to prepare long before your next payday how you are going to live on $400 (minus the loan fee) rather than your usual $500. Waiting to the last moment to try to figure this out usually leads people to panic and tell the lender they can't make the repayment at this time and gratefully accept the extension while only paying the fee. This is a very, very expensive mistake.

- Save up to repay if extensions are needed: If you do find that you need to extend your payment, don't just presume that your next check will cover all of the repayment amount, instead try saving up half out of your current check and then only having to pay half out of your next check as well.
